MANSIC - Beautygone (Kjell Hell)
Mansic, huh? They certainly do have an interesting sound
as the press release suggests. They've a violin player amidst the line
up, which gives them a Bluegrass edge…don't think I've heard the two being
spliced before, but they mesh convincingly enough for me.
Hailing from a suburb in Stockholm and garnering a history that steams
back to 1999, when they went under the name of [sic].
With Reggae undertones shed across the album, Mansic
are capable of holding the listeners attention longer than I'd expect
from a recent band I'venever heard before and have more up their sleeve
than I initially thought possible.
Nizze is a supreme vocalist and can easily shift from a ferocious growl
to a soft whimper somewhat likened to Frankie Stubbs.
This could draw interest from fans of all sorts, with followers of Leatherface
, The Ruts, Dropkick Murphys or Dead
Boys, all listed as potential takers.

MANSIC - Beauty Gone CD (Kjell Hell)
The cover made me fear the worst (goth) but I was pleasantly surprised
by this Swedish band who vary from being a more melodiv GBH
to nordic style folk a la Ultima Thule (although with
songs like "Fuck Your Nationality" they certainly wont be invited
onto any white power comps!).
And even a splash of ska/reggae. As with a lot of bands who throw in slow
numbers though, it drags from time to time, but on the whole, good, sussed
and imaginative street punk that sticks two fingers up to the real enemy.

MANSIC - Beautygone (Kjell Hell Records)
Boy, was I ever wrong with a record. I seriously didn't like Mansic's
latest effort after the first time listening. I thought it's predecessor
"Everyday Is A Tragedy" was a pretty damn good streetpunk rock
'n roll record with Swedish folk influences. The main thing that "Beautygone"
suffered from was the rather bad sounding mix, that gave the whole album
a rather raw and inaccessible touch. After a couple of listenings, I was
able to look past this and saw that the album might just be able to surpass
it's predecessor on more than a couple of points.
First of, Beautygone sounds more like a complete record in terms
of song writing. Mansic took their tight streetpunk and
inserted more upbeat melody's, which results in a less dark style. The
violin has a more important role this time around. Although it's mixed
more in the background, it sounds more complex and is used in far more
songs where it functions more like an extra guitar than an extra lead
instrument.
There are plenty of catchy and energetic punk rock songs here with quite
infectious melodies. For pleasure only, Mansic threw
in a couple of fun full throttle folk anthems. Take the instrumental "Reinlander
Riot" for example. It's fast, fun and danceable. Other highlights
include the folky "Demons and Beggars", the two typical Mansic
openers "She Was Beautiful" and "I Want" and the fast
and infectious "No Clue".
Just like most records, Beautygone has some weak tracks aboard.
Unfortunately, there are a few tracks here that just don't cut it and
drag the quality of the record down. After four good opening tracks, "Raped
By Life" sounds completely out of place with it's ska-ish sound and
mediocre chorus. They repeated their fault with another ska-ish song called
"Fuck Your Nationality" that just doesn't fit in. Although the
slow going folk song "Another Date" isn't all too bad, it kind
of breaks the record due to the lack of pace. I would have placed the
song at the end of the cd.
When you compare Mansic's new and previous effort, I
don't know which one I prefer. The good songs on Beautygone are
really good. It's clear that the band has grown in the two intermediate
years in the song writing department. On the other side, the cd suffers
from a bad mix and a couple of tracks that seem out of place or sound
very mediocre to bad. All in all, it's another excellent record from these
veteran punk. It just has a few flaws, but there's nothing a single push
on the skip button can't fix. If you're into melodious and raw punk rock;
then this is your thing.

MANSIC - Beautygone (Kjell Hell Records)
Formed in 1999 just outside of Stockholm Mansic play
old school punk mixed with rock n roll with the odd touch of folk music,
yes I did say folk music.
You get 16 tracks for your money, all of which are sung in English, with
the lyrics and notes from the band included in the c.d. booklet. The majority
of tracks on here are pretty good old school punk but then the band throw
in an instrumental complete with violin and distorted guitars!! Sort of
Swedish folk tunes played by a punk band, which is what it is when you
think about it.
The punk tunes have a mix of The Clash and early Major
Accident feel about them and make for good listening. If you
don't mind the odd surprise jumping out of your speakers this is a pretty
good c.d.

Mansic - Beautygone (CD-KJELL HELL KJELL 004)
Some of you might remember that we released Mansic’s
debut EP in America last year (“The Loving Father”), it was a
small run and we quickly ran out of the album; but it marked two things
– one was the start of us as a music label, and two it marked the entrance
of this amazing band into the American musical underground.
While American punk has been either watered down and diluted until it
resembles all the latest trends (see: Simple Plan), or
sped up and morphed into its own twisted version of glammed out rock (see:
The Casualties), this Swedish band has kept it simple
and to the point – old school punk rock with a bit of attitude.
The thing that really sets these guys apart from their brothers in leather
would be that they utilize some folk influences in their music, even making
the violin a main part of the band; “But Yellowcard already did that”
– yeah yeah, I have heard that objection before, but Mansic
has been around longer and they are not watered down wimp rock like the
clean ol’boys in Yellowcard. No track truly stands out,
but that is not what punk rock is about, it is not about the singles and
standout tracks, its about moshing and having a great time in the pit.
Crank your volume to eleven and start jumping around – this is the dose
of adrenaline you have been waiting for.
These industry veterans just want to get out and rock, they hit fast and
hard with this short album and end up delivering a beautiful piece of
punk rock history; if you are a fan of 70s punk rock with a slight twist,
I highly recommend you pick up this album, but be warned – its not for
everyone.
Sounds like: UK Subs, Stiff Little Fingers, The Clash.

Mansic - Beautygone (CD-KJELL HELL KJELL 004)
Mansic is a swedish band who mixes influences between
old school punrock and rock'n'roll with scandinavian folk. A violin in
the line-up that gives them originality and creates an interesting sound.
A small biography of the band: Mansic started in 1999
under the name [sic] and since 2001, when they released the album titled
"Waking Up" they have been in europe on tour. After a short break
the band reorganized and appeared with the new namn, Mansic.
In 2002 they released their first album as Mansic on
cd-r called "Punkrock Paperdoll" and 2003 they participated on
some compilations around the world. They also release their album "Everyday
is a Tragedy" at Bug Records. In august 2003 they're voted band of
the month at the site of the dutch radio show "Punkhour".
In 2004 they promote an excellent initiative, yielding 11 chosen subjects
of the 3 albums of the band to some D.I.Y labels around the world, launching
these on the cd "The Loving Father". A "best if..." where
the profits reverts all in favour of the labels. This to help keep the
D.I.Y scene alive.
In 2005 they release the 4th album of the band, and the 3rd as Mansic,
"Beautygone", released at the new swedish underground label "Kjell
Hell Records", containing 16 subject with the charismatic voice of Nizze
and a touch of Streetpunk.
Lyrics that approach social issuses subjects their personal poltics. And
the instrumental subjects, with the violin gives it an originality that
makes a difference. More influences and new sounds tried in this new album.
Punkrock, ska reggae, rock'n'roll and folk. Great parts of the titles
makes me remember The Clash mixed with Stiff Little Fingers
or U.K Subs with a touch of Cock Sparrer. The swedish
scene continues to be, without a doubt, the most productive in the alterantive
scene (punk, rock HC and everything else you like can be found here).
Mansic is a proof of this.

Dropkick Murphys etc) with excelent melodies, rough voice, a lot
of street spirit and a violin in some of the songs!
After listen to this cd I wanted more! so I can tell you that this is
good!

Mansic is a group which gets better and better for every
record. The best thing with the group is that they´re aren´t afraid to
do something different like take in a violin into their music which they
have done in many of their songs.
The punkrock they plays is a style where they mix both new and old material
in some nice way and here you have both 77-punk, Clash,
SLF and some newer and more modern punk, all this mixed
with modern punk and really nice vocals.
Some skatouch in some of the songs but it´s very little because most of
the time it´s fast music which is the thing and really clear is that they
suit into Kjell Hells etiquette because there he have really good acts
in the old way. But in Another Date they do a really good ballad.
