DIMS REBELLION - Nueva Estocolmo CD (Kjell Hell 003)
This band from Stockholm, Sweden knows what they´re doin'. This is male
powerpunk with ska influences and songs that makes you wanna drink beer,
be happy and sing-along! It´s nice to hear a band that really has settled
for a style that really suits them, and the singer´s voice really goes
with the music.
According to me, the best songs are "U And I", "Nothing Really
Matters" and "Dying Here In Shame". If you really like this
kinda music, you should really check it out!!

DIMS REBELLION - Nueva Estocolmo (Kjell Hell)
There's something distinctly alien about Dims Rebellion.
Yes, they're Swedish and yes we're all only too familiar with Swedish
Punk Rock, but have I ever really heard what Swedish Punk sounds like,
because most of what I hear from there is a direct copy of some other
nations music, usually America.
I don't believe I've heard much that sounds distinctly (there's that word
again) Swedish. But that in a sense is what Dims Rebellion
has to offer. Something very much homegrown, or at least one can only
assume that's where the influence is coming from. Had The Ramones
enlisted Olof from the Stage Bottles in fro
a session and allowed him to carry the lead vocals while he was it, I
believe the result would be something akin to this. They've got the one-two
punch of the Ramones formula, but a backup band that
sounds as though it includes, amongst other things, a Hammond organ and
saxophone. It's a quirky concept but they keep it all together with immaculate
timing, which makes it easy to get straight into their groove, or if you
prefer you can sit back and dismantle the various different elements and
ideas that range through their songs.

I thought these would be one of those tuff guy heavy Euro-Oi bands that
try and fail to be Discipline but this is better than
expected, if a thoch radio friendly with it's slick production and 'personal'
lyrics.
An unusual mixture of rocky streetpunk, pop melodies, 60's organ and even
Roxy Music style sax on a couple of songs.
Powerful and catchy in a Neurotics circa "Suzi"
period kinda way, but lacking a bit of an 'edge'.

Swedish street punkers take it to the next level. SWINGIN UTTERS
and DROPKICK MURPHYS discovered the Celtic folk. These
dudes have discovered keyboard laden pop-rock. A rockin NEIL YOUNG,
or BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN. And y'know, they make it sound
pretty good too.

DIMS REBELLION - Nueva Estocolmo (Kjell Hell Records)
I knew Dims Rebellion already from the Brewed In
Sweden compilation, but with 'Nueva Estocolmo' I am sold!
Where the first song (Damn You World) has some heavy
rockabilly influences are the 10 remaining songs a powerful mix of streetpunk
and powerpop played more than sublime.
The use of an organ and sax on some of the songs is a pleasure for my
ears, and the use of 2 singers just makes this picture complete. You didnt
like the new Social Distortion cd that much afterwards,
and you lost interest in bands such as The Bones and
The Generators? Than you'll welcome Dims Rebellion with
open arms, what an album!

DIMS REBELLION - Nueva Estocolmo (Kjell Hell Records)
Finally a full album of Dims Rebellion is published!!
What can we say about them that has not yet been said? This album is a
true masterpiece. “Damn You World” (incredible), “Can´t You
See”, “Sthlm RIP”, “Dear Emptiness” (genius), “U
and I” (great organ!), “Nothing Really Matters” (I have
no words...), only surmountable by “Throw It All Away”! “The
Light” is great as well and “Dying Here In Shame” is the
one I like the least.
Then comes “Fade Away”, the original version, without any country
riffs...what can I say...pure Dims Rebellion style! They
tie the album up with “Another Day”, another good tune, very
much of the quality of the rest of the CD.
Buy it or you will have lost your right to judge music from now on.

DIMS REBELLION - Nueva Estocolmo (Kjell Hell Records)
Solid old-school punk
I naturally assumed the rather toothsome young lady splashed all over
the artwork of "Nueva Estocolmo" (and if you think I'm typing
that again you're sadly mistaken) to be a member of Dims Rebellion,
but no, it's purely gratuitous piece of marketing.
Fair play to them. As for the CD under discussion, it's a pretty sound
slab of old fashioned punk/new wave, swathed with rather more keyboards
than I personally care for, but Lorenzo's gravely vocals give
the album some welcome edge.

DIMS REBELLION "Nueva Estocolmo" (Kjell Hell Records)
This band from Stockholm gave me a very good impression with their debut
EP, so discovering that they have a new album it has been great for me.
Starting from the sound of the EP, I can say that they actual music is
softer and they have reached a very catchy and melodic punk, sometimes
also poppy, and where both saxo and keyboard give them a very personal
style, accompanied of a very good melodies and a top singer.
All together makes "Nueva Estocolmo" a kicking album, with no
doubt one of the best albums out of Sweden in time, and this is much!!
It´s not easy to choose some songs, they´re all great, from "Damn
You World" to "STHLM RIP", "U and I"
or "Fade Away". A great record!.

DIMS REBELLION - "Nueva Estocolmo" (Kjell Hell Records)
OK, this is a tricky one. The CD arrived far too scratched up to play
in my, er, office sound system. So, I'm just going to have to attempt
to review the CD based sloely on the sleev, booklet, and back tray all
have pictures of some hardcore looking chick.
I mean hardcore in the sense of lots os tattoos, but cliean looking. Swallows
above both her breasts. Converse on her feet. I suspect most folks would
find her reasonably attractive. I presume that's why there are three more
semi "seductive" pictures of her. She doesn't, however, appear to be in
the band.
The band are a five-piece, and judging from theor pictures, appear to
be hardcore type kids that have sort of gotten into rock 'n' roll. Lots
of tattoos, and wife beaters, but with slicked back hair. I dunno, mebbe
thay are yet another SOCIAL DISTORTION wannabe. I think
they might be Norwegian, or Swedish. Difficult to tell. the lyrics are
all fairly personal. Pretty emo actually. So there you go, bit of an enigma
really.

DIMS REBELLION - Nueva Estocolmo (Kjell Hell Records)
Dims Rebellion have been around since 1999 and are from
Stockholm, Sweden. The press release described them as playing power pop
punk, so I was expecting something like Busted!!!
I was wrong. This is good sounding punk along the lines of Stiff
Little Fingers, although the band have keyboards and a sax player.
11 tracks sung in English of some pretty good punk tunes, I think the
power pop bit was an error on behalf of the record company, then again
Scandanavia is famous for black metal so to the Swedes this may sound
like pop music. Well worth checking out.

DIMS REBELLION - NUEVA ESTOCOLMO (CD-KJELL HELL KJELL 003)
It's been a long wait but finally it's here. The debut album of Swedens
and Stockholms Dims Rebellion. Expectations were great
after hearing their their 7" ep which was released a couple of years ago,
and their contributions to the "Brewed in Sweden" albums.
On this album they have moved towards a more "popier" sound. They are
still based in punk, as we can hear on some of the tracks, but I do miss
the anger, fury and tempo from their earlier recordings. On the other
hand they make great melodies and the organ and the sax gives them a dimension
that most other bands don't have.
On the downside it tends to get a little to much sometimes. Especially
the organ is very dominating on some of the tracks. The cd starts with
the track "Damn You World" which is one of the best tracks on
the album. Other favourites are Sthlm R.I.P, Dying Here in Shame
and Fade Away.
It's not that easy to describe their music but powerpop and Social
Distortion is what pops in to my head. All in all a good effort
from the boys in Dims, but I think it's a shame they
are moving away from their streetpunk roots.

Fantastic, how could I have been missed out this band. Or miss or miss
but I have not thought about them as a good band but fuck what wrong I
was.
They´re a band with punk as a base but they have saxophone, organ and
so on and they dare to break the style they “must” have. I can imagine
that bands like Jam and Stiff Little Fingers
have been on their recordplayer through the years. Because it´s the same
type of musicstyles but with the punk as a base which I said.
There’s so much feelings involved in their punk and so much melodies so
it´s hardly impossible to describe them all but it´s really clear that
this must be among the best bands in Sweden this year.
